We have returned home from our 19 day trip and feel that Lulo is very deserving of their excellent reviews. Everything was as promised, communication was excellent and in every case the drivers and guides were wonderful.

We have tried to decide what the favorite part of the vacation was, but really can’t decide. What we can say is that we never encountered any political turbulence, we felt safe the entire time. There were no issues anywhere we went, in fact people were extremely warm and welcoming. We would recommend Colombia and Lulo without hesitation.

They are the perfect mix of local/boutique/Colombia and experienced/professional/expert. We’re hesitant to work with the huge global tour companies, although I’m sure many of those are very good. But Lulo was the perfect fit for us. I had researched a lot in advance, but they guided me to tweak with my planned itinerary in a very good way. By my own admission, I’m very particular and picky! This was my husband’s and my first trip to South America but we’ve travelled in Europe extensively, and know exactly what we want and don’t want, and what can go wrong without proper planning or without an expert tour company as support. I desired a highly customized arrangement – certain tours and day trips, with expert and experienced English-speaking guides, and transfers, and intra-Colombia flight bookings – all arranged by Lulo – but also free time in the itinerary to explore museums and do other activities on our own, which my husband and I love. I also like to book my own hotels – Daniel and Char provided excellent recommendations to guide our decisions. Anytime I sent a text while in Colombia with a little request or change, they responded immediately and well. Their trip app, with all of the travel documents and guidance, was expert, complete and perfect. I seriously have nothing negative to report – everything went perfectly, the guides and drivers were on time, friendly and wonderful, and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Colombia (FYI – we visited Bogota, Raquira, Villa de Leyva, Medellin, Guatape, Cartagena and Palenque over a 2-week period).

Every hotel had its own personality with very warm yet professional staffs, every tour and event was conducted with passion and the requisite skill and knowledge sets and every one of the many internal travel segments were timely and very comfortable. If we had any need whether as part of the plan or for anything extra it was met with an all out attempt to find a solution. A special shout out to Hernando who was our driver for 18 days as he was so much more than a driver. He was our leader and did everything and more to always keep us on the right path and provide insights into the Colombian life and its politics. He was a joy to be with and we are grateful he was able to be with us for as many days as possible.

  We are a group of eight friends who spent 3 amazing weeks in Colombia. Daniel worked with us to create a fully customized itinerary for our group. We went to different parts of Colombia which required many domestic flights, and different vehicle types at individual locations. We had great specialist guides for different activities – birding guides, local guides in the Amazon lodge, and city guides for Bogota and Cartagena. We asked for changes during the trip and Daniel accommodated our requests without hesitation. We had additional people join us during the trip and Daniel was able to take care of all the changes seamlessly. We stayed in great lodges and hotels during our trip - all recommended by Lulo.   Lulo Colombia and Daniel worked diligently with our group leader to put together a fully customized, demanding, 3 week trip for 8 people (from the US) that included big cities... read more like Bogotá and Cartagena, coastal areas, mountains, and the Amazon jungle. The itinerary consisted of bird watching, hiking, snorkeling, and river tubing, and each day was fully packed.
Communication was key, and Daniel was very prompt in listening, responding, and arranging each phase exactly as discussed. Transportation, accommodation, and luggage transfers went very smoothly, even when we went to some remote mountainous areas (like El Dorado Reserve in Santa Marta) that required three 4x4 vehicles to get us there. We stayed in very unique and interesting lodges in several places.
When our guide in the Amazon jungle turned out to be more of a tree expert than a birding guide, one call to Daniel was all it took for the birding enthusiasts in the group to get a separate birding expert to go with them that very afternoon. That speaks to pretty good connections.
We were also able to add a 9th person for the last few days (pre-arranged) - and change the itinerary on the fly for a few from the group - all very easily accomplished.
We had a lovely tour of beautiful Colombia, where the people are very friendly, with a quick Bueno día, or Buena tarde to greet you as you passed by. The fresh fruits were delicious, and be sure to not miss the buzzing Sunday fair near the main plaza in Bogotá, with street performers and sidewalk vendors.
I would definitely recommend Lulo Colombia and Daniel to book your next Colombia adventure.

Unfortunately one of our tour guides became ill, and at short notice, Daniel and the Lulo team were able to organise an alternative tour and transport within the hour.
The use of a local mobile phone and the 24/7 support from the Lulo team was a great help. The useful tips they provided for things from tipping, to areas that wouldn't take card and ensure to bring cash, to sitting on the correct side of the boat on transport to the Rosario islands to avoid the hot sun.
The detailed itinerary and ability to change around times really made the trip an unbelievable experience. Everything was exactly as described and shown in the pictures.
Colombia really is a beautiful country and the people were so friendly and welcoming. I would rate my experience with Lulo 10/10 and say thank you to Daniel, Cristina and all the Lulo team for organising the trip of a lifetime for us.

He patiently worked with me even before we signed on, changing our proposal as we make changes to our itinerary. Daniel was always available to troubleshoot any issues, answer any questions, work through any potential changes that we came up at the last minute, providing great support and service that goes above and beyond. For example, Daniel negotiated late check out at our hotel when we could not, worked to find us towels so we can shower in the spa before getting on the plane, made reservation for us for Rum Tasting in Cartagena when they didn't respond to us, answered a million questions I have while on the trip. My husband and I are experienced travellers and normally arrange everything ourselves, but because we wanted to get as much out of our time in Colombia and wanted to visit some more remote places as well, we decided to inform with a travel agency.
From the moment we got in contact with Lulocolombia and Daniel, I was convinced we should book with them. They are very knowledgeable, experienced, kind and patient. We had a pretty good idea of everything we wanted to do and which places we wanted to visit and then Daniel suggested some extra’s or alternatives and put all of that into a smooth 5-week trip.
Our trip was really packed with activities and, because of our chosen destinations, quite some transports but really everything went smoothly. Activities were on time, drivers were on time, everything went according to plan. We were also constantly kept up to date about everything through whatsapp and when we needed information, they always responded within minutes. Lulocolombia even helped us out with our lost baggage and with the rebooking of our international flight.
The logistics set aside, the trip itself was amazingly beautiful as well. We absolutely loved Colombia and the places we visited (Casanare with the great local guide Santiago, Canos Cristales, Amazon, Coffee region, Medellin, Bahia Solano, Cartagena, Rosario islands, Tayrona, Barichara, villa de leyva and Bogota). The nature was wonderful, the people were friendly and the food was great.
There is no doubt in our minds, if we visit Colombia again (because the country is so big and there is so much more that we would like to see), we will definitely have it arranged by Lulocolombia again.
