The amount of avian species the country holds is unseen in the world, going over 1900, and thanks to the country´s varied and sometimes even extreme topography it is possible to see lots of endemic and semi-endemic birds.

They can be searched for on the different altitude levels of the Andean mountains, dry forest, jungle, endless wetlands, the unique páramo, coastal regions, and even the desert.

Nowadays, almost 20% of the whole world´s bird population can be found in Colombia, and especially hummingbirds are present in great and unprecedented numbers.

Colombians know that this makes their country unique and started to develop and educate themselves to become bird specialists and to create more and more preserved areas specifically for bird-watching.
