Disney’s Encanto movie paints a magical picture of Colombia. The enchanted house (casita) and its gorgous surrounding seem too beautiful to be true. But, those who have been to Colombia, know that it is actually not that far from reality. The essence and absolute beauty of the country was captured perfectly by the writers of this magical movie.
This means that when visiting Colombia you can really go over to some of the magically beautiful locations that were chosen to be displayed in the movie. Three of them really stand out and are obviously directly based on some of Colombia’s most charming and suprising areas.
First of all, the immensely high palm trees that surround the Madrigal’s house, are the national – and endemic- tree of the country and dot different valleys in the country’s lush coffee zone. Especially the Cocora Valley is known for its majestic views of green slopes stippled by the Quindio Wax Palms.
Furthermore; the enchanted house of the Madrigal family, just as the houses of the villagers, are based on the typical colonial houses that can be seen in Barichara or Villa de Leyva. Two tiny villages where time seems to have stood still and where you can experience the relaxed and authentique style of living of countryside Colombians. The houses in the Encanto movie have colorful window sills which are typical for the coffee zone – think Salento!
The third place could be an actual magical place. It is where every year for a couple of months during the rainy season, the river turns completely pink. This river is the Caño Cristales River. It is surrounded by nature, jungle and animals like capibaras-which are also portrayed in the Encanto movie.
