Discover one of Colombia’s most iconic museum and learn about the most famous Colombian artist: Fernando Botero.

The museum is is housed in a typical colonial house with a gorgeous patio. It does not only holds artwork of Colombia´s most famous artist, Fernando Botero, but also sculptures and paintings of other renown artists like Picasso, Miró and Dali.

These works used to be part of the private collection of Fernando Botero himself, but he donated them to the Botero museum to make art more accessible to the mass.

But what is Fernando Botero (1932 –  ) really known for? Well, many know him as the Colombian artist from Medellin who paints ´fat´ people. However, this is not completely true.

He actually decided to depict proportionally exaggerated figures and forms, and he mixed these out of proportion characters with touches of subtle political criticism. His unique style is often called “Boterismo”.
