LAGUNA DEL OTUN

Go hiking to Laguna del Otun and discover one of the most amazing ecosystems on earth: the Paramo. Enjoy high-altitude nature at its fullest while trekking with views over snow-capped mountains.

Time to go on a hiking adventure on high-altitude mountains!

At 05:00 am you will be picked up by our English-speaking guide at your accommodation. Then, you will be driven in a by 4×4 all the way up into the mountains of the Parque de los Nevados.

This is a national park with glaciers, impressive valleys, paramos and snow-capped mountain peaks.

Around 08:30 am you will arrive in the basecamp El Potosi, where you will be served a typical Colombian breakfast.

Then, after fueling your stomach and muscles, you will start your walk to La Laguna del Otun. 

Hiking to Laguna del Otun is an unforgettable trek to a gorgeous lake located at an altitude of 4000 meters above sea level.

It is surrounded by a very special ecosystem called Paramo, which is something you won’t find in almost any other country in the world.

The landscapes, the vegetation, the views and the nature are truly impressive. Moreover, at this elevation there is a 100% paramo vegetation, something which is so unique and specific for the mountains in Colombia.

The entire hike last around 5 hours. It is of medium difficulty, due to the fact that you are this high above sea level. However, the path itself is an easy and almost flat one.

Afterwards, once you have enjoyed the lake and the hike, you will head backwards to the cabins of El Potosi. You will around here around 2:00 pm to have a typical Colombian lunch.

Finally, after lunch, you will start your return to your hotel. You will arrive back at around 6:30 pm.
