Day 1 – ARRIVAL IN LA MACARENA AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS

 

You will be welcomed in the small airport of La Macarena and taken to the offices of the Park authorities where you will attend a short talk and video about the park, the river and the normal precautions you have to keep in mind during your visit.

 

Right after that, you will be taken to the town’s harbor to get on a wooden canoe that will bring you over the Guayabero River to the starting point of your first activity: the visit of Caño Cristalitos.

 

After the 20 minutes boat ride, you will continue with a 45-minutes walk until you reach Caño Cristalitos. Here, you will get the first impressions of the amazing underwater plants that only grow in this area and give those bright colors to the river.

 

You will have lunch right next to the river and get some time to relax and swim in some of the natural river ponds.

 

Afterwards, you will go for another hike of around 45 minutes (mainly uphill), until you reach a place called El Mirador, from where you will have some breath-taking views of the surroundings.

 

Next, you will descend back to the Guayabero river (about 30 minutes walking) to catch another canoe that takes you in 15 minutes to your accommodation: Ecolodge La Manigua.

 

You will then check-in in the lodge and have the rest of the day free to relax, enjoy the surrounding jungle and maybe get to spot some monkeys.

 

Accommodation: private wooden cabin surrounded by nature at La Manigua Lodge.

Day 2 – CAÑO CRISTALES

 

Today you will get to visit the main parts of the Caño Cristales River.

 

After a delicious breakfast, you will take again a canoe over the Guayabero River for about 10 minutes. Then, you will go by 4×4 jeeps inside the National Park for about 40 minutes.

 

Next, you will walk for about 30 minutes until you finally reach the magic Caño Cristales River.

 

You will then get enough time to enjoy the river’s natural beauty and take lots of pictures.

 

Bordering the river there is a path that you will then follow to be able to see different parts of the river at different angles.

 

Along that path, you will have the chance to swim in some natural ponds and you will have lunch during one of the stops.

 

After about 7 hours in the area, you will start your walk back to get into the 4×4 Jeep and then take the boat back to the lodge.

 

In the late afternoon, you will have cultural activity in which you will learn from the locals how to make chocolate from the cacao plants that grow in the area.

Caño Cristales 3 days

Day 3 – NATURAL WONDERS IN THE SURROUNDINGS

 

Today you will go back to Bogota. However, before you leave this amazing region, there will be time for 1 more visit to Caño Cristales.

 

After breakfast, you do the same way towards the National Park (Canoe + 4×4 Jeep + Walk).

 

However, today you will take a different path to visit the lower Caño Cristales basin, where this majestic river enters the jungle and its aquatic plants acquire an intense green coloration, which will give you a completely different image from the ones you saw the day before.

 

Just as yesterday, you will get enough time to get to really enjoy the place, take plenty of pictures and swim in natural ponds.

 

Then, you willgo straight to La Macarena’s airport to catch your flight back to Bogota.
