Tierradentro might be Colombia´s most important archaeological site. It was declared world heritage by UNESCO in 1995.
The pre-Columbian statues and tombs were discovered in the stunning mountains surrounding a village called San Andrés de Pisimbalá.
Only little is known about the unique archeology of the circular tombs. It is established that they were built by indigenous cultures that inhabited the place hundred of years ago.
The profound burial sites are characterized by smooth original steps to enter and are decorated in red, white and black geometrical iconography.
A must-have trip for archeology enthusiasts!
